Interactive teaching - in class or over the web
Maths Matters Online is a complete application that provides the resources for whole-class teaching of all topics in mathematics in the Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 syllabuses and the IGCSE Additional Maths syllabus. It is equally suited for front-of-class teaching, making full use of the facilities of interactive whiteboards, or for teaching classes remotely, over the web. Maths Matters contains an infinitely-variable, customisable scheme of work, a Lessons Suite with 420 pre-populated, editable lessons and an Assessment Module. Online content you can adapt
Maths Matters employs very advanced software technology. Written in MasterClass, Maths Matters makes use of the most advanced features of Adobe Flash. Whilst each lesson is complete with starter questions, objectives, key words, introductions, worked examples and a plenary, you can change and edit every aspect of them - even though they are all written in Flash (Action Script 3) and accessed via the internet - you can customise them to suit your teaching style and the needs of your students, quickly and easily, without needing to know anything about programming. And customised lessons can be instantly shared with your colleagues.
A full set of virtual tools (pen, text, compasses, ruler, protractor and graph-plotting tools etc.) is available at all times and interactive workshops of astonishing power allow teachers and students to take an investigative approach to problems. "What if I try to solve it this way...?" - well, students can try it and see! You can enter problems from text books or past examination papers and demonstrate all of the steps to solve them - the working adjusts to use your data. Assessment that shows the working
The Maths Matters Assessment Module will work with any SCORM 2004-compliant VLE, with any type of question. Operation is simple - only one SCORM file needs to be uploaded to the VLE ... ever. Students access assignments over the web. Teachers can use the standard assessments or modify them by selecting different questions or editing them and even write their own. Students can use the full range of interactive tools to produce their working and all of the students' working is captured, so teachers can check their students' understanding of the correct method. Numeric or algebraic answers are marked automatically, giving students instant feedback, and the scores update the VLE mark book. There are thousands of questions in the Assessment Module database and each has a fully-worked solution which students can view when they have completed an assignment. Accessible anytime and anywhere
Maths Matters Online has been designed to minimise data traffic and require little processing power. Lessons typically load in 4-6 seconds on a broadband connection. Use of tutorial content does not require continuous connection to the internet. Maths Matters Online runs on any computer (PC or Mac), tablet or mobile phone that is Flash enabled, with a special "tablet mode" ensuring optimum performance, and is compatible with the Adobe Connect Classroom software. There is no installation required for users of Maths Matters Online, with the exception of the Adobe Flash Player.
